April 1st, April Fools Day is right around the corner, and every year my kids go crazy with the idea of “pranking” my husband and me. And every year the attempts are shall we say just a little predictable. So every year we put on our best “surprised” face, chuckle a little, and hope that it ends soon….which it doesn’t. The rest of the day is spent listening to ways they are going to “fool” each other, and me intervening at ideas that could be a little sketchy…”No, you can not tell your brother that he has been adopted, and that his new family will be here in 15 minutes…so go pack your bags”. Even considering all that, April Fools Day can be a fun and silly day to spend with your family, so here are some family-friendly pranks to get in on the fun!
“Sorry, there’s a line”…Line up the kids stuffed animals to create a long line for the potty (If you have one big enough, plop one on the toilet seat). I bet you get some giggles from the crew.
Does your child sleep soundly??? Try the old Switch-a-Roo…after your child/children has fallen peacefully and fast asleep, gently pick them up and put them somewhere else (hee hee).
“I made Brownies”…really I did! Tell the kids you have a special after dinner treat, homemade “Brown-E’s”. Disclaimer: In order to avoid issues with disappointed kids, in my house there would probably be a back-up pan of the yummy kind. What can I say, my kids take their treats very seriously!
HONK!!!! So this might be a little more “mean” spirited but funny nonetheless. Tape an air horn to the wall where the door handle would press on it when the door is opened. I know my kiddos would be hysterical…after the initial shock.
The Food is Alive! Put googly eyes on all the food in the refrigerator for a silly prank.
Mixing it up!!! Here is a fun opportunity for moms and dads to play with food. Make a creative mixed up meal or dessert.
Balloons, Balloons Everywhere!!! Who doesn’t love 1 balloon, so who wouldn’t really love a ton of them? The kids would certainly wake up giggling in a balloon wonderland!
While I must admit, I am glad that April Fools Days only comes once a year, I am however happily willing to except a day of harmless pranks and extra silliness. If the end result is extra smiles and giggles, than another year of acting surprised is certainly worth it. For that is something I would welcome any day!!
