So who’s ‘The Man’ of your life? Grandpa, Great-grandpa, dad, stepdad, hubby? No matter what the relationship is, we know dads deserve quite a bit of credit and they’re the patriarch of our family! Around the corner comes Father’s Day (June 21st), which also happens to be on the first official day of summer this year. Having trouble finding what to do with Dad this year? A common question people ask is, “What’s the ‘best’ way to let Dad knofather6w we appreciate him?” Some families stress over this so much and want to do something so spectacular or different, whereas others just stick to what they call “the usual”- a gift card to Lowe’s or Home Depot and he’ll be happy. (FYI, these are definitely very handy and useful gifts, don’t get me wrong here!) Well, is there really a best way nowadays?

The best way?
Follow your own heart! Don’t worry about what others are doing! Be as free spirited as you’d like and maybe try some something new or adventurous. Anything homemade, anything you know would be different from what other dads might receive, or more importantly, do anything you know that special dad would love and enjoy! It’s all father4about him on this day! Put your child’s messy paint project in a very nice frame…voila! Handmade wall décor for the home or office! A few years ago, I used Crayola’s Color Wonder finger paints with my son (he was 3 years old), and it was really impressive how the colors all blended together over the whole page! I used a fancy frame with a matte, and this piece of art has received numerous compliments at my hubby’s work. I also could not resist these homemade card ideas  when I saw them. Feel free to try these out.

As it will be the first day of summer, why not fire up the grill and kick off grilling season with some steaks? YUM! (this will also save money and the crowds of going out to a restaurant).  After enjoying the juicy steak, give Dad a one-of-kind homemade basket. Pick and choose what to put in them.

Shutterbug time!
One of my favorites, and I don’t know of ANY man who cannot resist, are photos! Put your camera to work and start snapping some pictures! Hats off to Craftionary for their creative photo ideas! Use your own camera, and start taking some great candid shots of the family. Best of all, your gift will be ever-lasting. (they also won’t end up buried in some drawer somewhere down the line!)

Still stumped? Try one of these abundant gift and craft ideas which have a large variety of fun stuff for kids of all ages and abilities. There’s bound to be something Dad will like here! If Dad has a sweet tooth, check out Thriftyfun’s Candy Bouquet. (Note: save some “leftovers” for the little helpers who created it for him!)

The all-time favorite, make a scavenger hunt out of Father’s day! Have Dad look for his gift, going by the rhyming clues he finds throughout the house. Kids can pick the hiding spot and where to put the clues. If your child is old enough, have them practice writing their letters by writing some of the clues. Pure fun for everyone!

Who has time for all of that?
What if you don’t have much time to do something elaborate? Have no fear! Remember those good ol’ gift cards, or the tie or dress shirt he wanted, but also maybe try some of these last minute projects.  Try out some additional quick DIY projects for Dad too.

Whatever you choose to do for ‘The Man’, this Father’s DayFathers3, have fun doing so, and spoil him as much as possible! Let him sleep in and maybe allow him to have breakfast in bed made by the kids. You can’t go wrong when your ideas are coming from the heart! Some dads just want a relaxing day to sit around and do nothing but watch TV, let them do this! They may need a break from their stressful job! You can also try to trick dad by letting him have the remote for the day…..with remote control cookies too!  (I am officially daring you to try this!)
