EmpowerED Parenting: Navigating Your Child’s Journey @ Zoom
Mar 4 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Starting this November join us for EmpowerED Parenting: Navigating Your Child’s Journey

We know life’s a juggling act, especially when you’re raising a child with unique needs. But here’s a game-changer: our monthly training class, designed for busy parents just like you!

Starting this November through March, join us twice a month as we dive deep into school supports and IEP’s. We’ll focus specifically on how services and supports can be used to help our children with mental health challenges and other disabilities succeed at school.

Why should you invest your precious time?

1. Support Your Child: We’ll show you how to create a rock-solid plan that addresses your child’s mental health needs within their IEP. It’s not just about education; it’s about their well-being.
2. Mastering Meetings: Discover the secrets to ensure meetings, including those school meetings, not only respect but also value your input. You’re the expert on your child, and it’s time they recognize it!

This investment of your time isn’t just about today; it’s about securing your child’s future. By empowering yourself with this knowledge you are learning skills that can help set them up for lifelong success.

So, let’s do this together! Your child’s potential knows no bounds, and we’re here to make sure it shines bright.

Don’t miss out—registration closes October 27th at noon. Get more information and sign up here: https://www.paparentandfamilyalliance.org/what-s-new

Does your child have a 504 plan and you'r unsure if it's helping as well as it should be? Does your child have anxiety, depression, ADHD, etc but the IEP isn't taking those concerns into account? Do you want to learn techniques to advocate for your child that you can use even outside school. Join our twice monthly class to learn the skills you need to help your child. Disability Acceptance Through Literature Book Studies Ages 8-12 @ Zoom
Mar 6 @ 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

There is a bright purple background with snowflakes. NEW FOR WINTER 2023-2024. Disability Acceptance through Literature Book Studies. INCLUSIVE VIRTUAL BOOK STUDIES FOR STUDENTS ANYWHERE IN PA! Story Tour for students ages 5-8 "Real People" Thursdays 1/18 - 2/1 Book study for students ages 8-12 Song for a Whale, Lynne Kelly. Wednesdays 1/17 - 3/6 Book study for students ages 12-17 Freak the Mighty, Rodman Philbrick. Mondays 1/22 - 2/19 Sign up now to save your spot! thearcpa.org/includeme/bookstudies

The Arc of PA’s Include Me program is excited to present “Disability Acceptance through Literature,” a virtual book study for students. Books selected by our facilitators provide opportunities to learn about the many aspects of disability through the perspective of school age protagonists.

Discussions center on understanding, acceptance, presuming competence, and friendship. Values like compassion, honesty, authenticity and diversity steer the ship, and we love when conversations are led by students’ interests. These book studies are an innovative way to provide students interested in reading with a structured opportunity to connect with other students across Pennsylvania. We strive to make the book studies accessible, with:

    • audio recordings of each chapter,
    • vocabulary resources,
    • engaging visual content for discussions, and,
    • by providing copies of the book to families as the book studies gear up.

These four or eight week book studies make room for silliness and curiosity, and we’re proud of the stigma-blasting power of the program (and that of the students themselves!).

Include Me connects each book study and accompanying lessons to the Pennsylvania Academic Standards.

For more information, contactcmorrison@includemepa.org or jmacsisak@includemepa.org

Dates: January 17 – March 6 (8 weeks)

Registering will save your child a seat. Include your mailing address so we can send you the book! Before our first meeting, you will receive an email detailing how to log in to the google classroom, and the Zoom link we’ll use to join in every week. Audiobook recordings will be available.

From fixing the class computer to repairing old radios, twelve-year-old Iris is a tech genius. But she’s the only deaf person in her school, so people often treat her like she’s not very smart. If you’ve ever felt like no one was listening to you, then you know how hard that can be.When she learns about Blue 55, a real whale who is unable to speak to other whales, Iris understands how he must feel. Then she has an idea: she should invent a way to “sing” to him! But he’s three thousand miles away. How will she play her song for him?
