Technology and Remote Supports: Starting with the Basics

Technology has become a major part of all of our lives. For people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities, technology can offer opportunities for independence, entertainment, choice and control. Additionally, Remote Supports are now offered which offers more opportunity for services that can increase independence, as well. Join us as we discuss Technology and Remote Supports and how they can impact an Everyday Life!
Outcomes:
- Understand the definitions and differences between Assistive Technology and Remote Supports
- Review the various uses and determination of need for these services.
- Learn how waivers can offer various technologies and Remote Supports

As the saying goes, “We befriended technology and there’s no going back!” Assistive Technology plays a major role in many of our lives. This workshop visits the everyday technology that we may already have that can impact our lives for the better!
Outcomes:
- Taking a look at technology as we use it currently: health and safety, communication, and more
- Looking at creative options for our current technology
- Discover resources, apps, and more.

Technology: Ideas for “Independence”
October 26, 2023- 12pm-2pm OR 6:30pm-8:30pm- Zoom
“Independence” is different for everyone! For some people it may be simple devices that help them remember their schedule, while for others it is a complete Smarthome. For some people with I/DD, having someone available through remote supports is what is needed for them to be able to do things on their own. Join the Pa Family Network as we take a look at some of the assistive devices and services that have made a Vision of independence a more obtainable outcome.
Outcomes:
- Learn about Assistive Technology as identified under the waivers
- See how Remote Supports offers opportunities to build independent living skills
- Discover a variety of resources, information and lending/funding sources for technology
