School of Rock- Sensory Friendly Performance

Dedicated to inclusion, the Hershey Area Playhouse and The Arc of Cumberland & Perry Counties invites friends and families with a sensory need or other social, cognitive, and/or physical challenges to attend our Sensory Friendly performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s, School of Rock.

At this performance, sensory modifications are balanced with preserving the engaging theatre experience desired by all families and friends of the theatre.

What to expect: 

• Audience lights left low throughout the performance.
• Overall sound reduction throughout the performance.
• Other technical aspects of the show may be modified for this performance, such as eliminating strobe lights, lessening the intensity of sound effects, and modifying performer/audience interaction.
• Access to a Chill Zone within the theatre.
• A staffed quiet area will be available in the lobby for children who need to take a break from the show.

Audience members are welcome to bring their own manipulatives, comfort objects, and extra support items to the show.

Pre Visit Resources: 

• A week prior to the production, there will be a Sensory Guide designed to prepare patrons for the experience of attending our production.
• Prior to the show, friends and families will be able to access a Social Story for the Hershey Area Playhouse.

• A Social Story is a written story that shows information about a social situation to convey behavioral expectations and prepare for a new environment.

• Patrons will be given Meet Your Seat opportunities as well as be introduced to the theatre to reduce stress and support successful priming for the production.
