Isn’t it sad that we forget how fun Jello is? The color, the taste, the feel, the smell…it’s just plain cool! There are many, many ways to have fun with Jello for a multi-sensory experience that your children will love.
For all of you natural moms out there, let’s start out in your honor. Natural Jello can be made with natural gelatin, juice and a natural sweetener such as honey. Click the link or go to the website www.mamanatural.com for the recipe. This is a nice alternative to packaged Jello which does contain things we don’t like to talk about. I’ve researched that apparently gelatin is made from animal bones and hides. Assuredly, gelatin has many health benefits. Most of my life I assumed it was plant based and somehow grown on trees. I would venture to guess that I’d be very surprised at how most of the things I eat are made.
I did make natural juice jello once for my first child and it was great. However, a couple of kids later and I now buy the Jello brand off the shelf. It is a great price and I love the color and flavor choices. It is also simple to have everything in one box.
Moving on…Whatever method you choose, here are some very fun ideas to try.
Sky Jello- blue Jello and real whipped cream for the clouds. No sky will be the same, and every sky will be delicious. Depending on the age of your child you may consider a clear plastic cup instead of these beautiful, breakable parfait glasses. Here is the recipe.
Another extremely popular choice would be “Frozen” ice cubes. This recipe can be found here. It would be fun to experiment with different themes, colors and flavors.
This idea is very fun and may be adapted for individual projects by using clear, plastic cups. For a group, this large bowl makes a neat presentation for birthday parties or family dinners. Here is the recipe.
For a fun activity and snack combined- Build a Jiggly Lego wall. You can use the recipe for Jello Jigglers and pour them into cleaned Duplo style blocks and then into fridge until set. Voila- Jiggly blocks.
Hawaiian style shave ice at home! I know it’s not hot out yet…but it’s coming! Here is an easy technique to make this treat at home. This tutorial is very easy to follow.
And at last, my absolute favorite and coolest recipe I’ve found while researching- GLOW IN THE DARK JELLO. Yes it’s true, I’ve found multiple sources using this recipe. There is a chemical found in tonic water that glows. You will need a black light bulb, which makes everything look interesting. How cool is that? Let’s try it tonight! Here is the recipe.
DISCLAIMER- Please supervise your children while eating since Jell-O is somewhat of a choking hazard especially if eaten in humongous bites or while dancing.
There is always room for J-E-L-L-O.
