Residents of Pennsylvania can seek assistance and a range of services for themselves and their families from professionally trained staff members of the County Assistance Office. Programs available include cash assistance, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), help with child care, health care coverage, home heating assistance (LIHEAP), employment and training, and long-term living services in addition to provide referral services to other social service agencies. Applicants must meet certain income eligibility requirements for each program and enroll in COMPASS.
The mission of CMU is to plan with and support adults and children with mental disabilities, and their families when appropriate, to live full and inclusive lives within their communities. This will be achieved by providing support to access resources, both within the community and within the public systems for mental health, intellectual and developmental disability programs and early intervention services.

The Dauphin County Library System's Administrative Offices are located in the lower level of the McCormick Riverfront Library. The Library provides quality public library service to the residents of Dauphin County through 8 library locations, a website and a 24 hour automated phone line. The Library is a private, non-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) status.

Soup kitchen located in the Boyd Building of The Pine Street Presbyterian Church in downtown Harrisburg. It provides hot, nutritious meals for the needy and the homeless of the city. It also offers a phone, mail service, lockers, employment counseling, mental health evaluations, health screenings, legal advice, transportation, counseling, showers and haircuts. It is supported by 19 area churches and synagogues.
