Wow. I hope I’m not the only one who is sitting here thinking that 2015 flew by so fast. Seriously? Where did it go? As our New Year festivities are rapidly approaching this week, I wanted to share some last minute ideas for you to do with your children to prepare for the holiday. Remember, it’s not too late yet to do any of these!

Yes, your child can safely play with “fireworks”

You have to checnew year2k out the safest of all fireworks- Learning 4 Kids‘ fireworks crafts. The only words that come to my mind are cool, cute, and clever after seeing these (Hint: adults may even have fun doing this! Art therapy anyone?). Definitely some good, fun ‘Mommy/Daddy and Me’ time here! There’s even some educational aspects to a couple of their crafts, it doesn’t get any better than that. Who knew fireworks and math could go together? Don’t forget the frames to display your artwork afterwards. Also, try these additional fun crafts for celebrating the New Year..

Never too young for New Year resolutions!

So, we might be putting our own resolutions together right now for the New Year, which will probably include some things about either losing weight, working harder to get that promotion at work, or learning a new hobby. While you’re working on that, take some time out to help your children with theirs, including your littlest kids! PBSparents has a good article about making New Year resolutions that’s worth taking the time to read. My personal favorite (and also one that I will be “stealing”) is this free printable template to help your child wrap up 2015 in review and write their goals for 2016.

new year 3Even if you have a toddler, if they can understand about trying to work on something, help them come up with ideas and write it down for them. If your child is old enough, this is a great way to also practice writing their letters and words, their teachers will love you. Perhaps including toilet-training (if applicable) can be a good one to work on? For your comedic relief and/or other possible ideas, here are 21 New Year Resolutions By Toddlers. For the record, my seven year old still needs to have #4 on his resolution!

Bring on the tasty treats

I saved the best for last…food! Try these easy recipes for kids’ snacks for your New Year’s Eve celebration, regardless if you’re having a party or not. Don’t worry about the high sugar content in some of them, since the sugar might help give them that extra boost of energy to last later in the evening. Even better, these recipes won’t take too much time to make at all. They can even bring out the kid in the adults too!

Until then, enjoy these final moments of 2015. May your 2016 be one of the best years ever for you! Happy New Year!
